The representative office of the League of Arab States in China visited the school
12 On the morning of the 16th, our institution held a symposium for exchange between the Arab League Representative Office in China and Northwestern University. Our school principal Sun Qingwei attended the symposium and unveiled the plaque of our Arab League Research Center together with Ahmed Mustafa Fahmy Hafez, the visiting director of the Arab League Representative Office in China. Fan Daidi, member of the Standing Committee of the School Party Committee and Vice President, presided over the symposium, and representatives from the International Cooperation Department, regional country colleges, foreign language colleges, and teachers and students attended the symposium.

Sun Qingwei introduced the historical development of the school and the achievements of regional and national subject construction during the discussion. He pointed out that the school has a profound research tradition in Middle Eastern Arab countries. In recent years, the school has fully utilized its comprehensive disciplinary advantages and produced a series of important achievements, playing an important role in promoting academic cooperation and cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Arab countries. He stated that Mr. Hafez has made important contributions to promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Arab countries. His visit and appointment as an honorary professor will effectively promote the construction and development of regional and national disciplines in our university. The school will further deepen exchanges and cooperation with universities and research institutions in Arab countries, achieve more cooperation results, inject new vitality into the exchange and mutual learning of Chinese and Arab civilizations, and make the Silk Road friendship that spans thousands of years shine even more brilliantly in the new era.

Hafez expressed his great honor to visit Northwestern University again on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Arab League and be appointed as an honorary professor at the university. He said that the School of Regional Studies at Northwestern University combines academic research with the major practical needs of China and Arab countries, and has built a modern academic Silk Road for the study of Arab history and civilization. Its policy recommendations on the current relationship between China and Arab countries have made outstanding contributions to China Arab exchange and cooperation. It is expected that the Arab League Representative Office in China and Northwestern University will strengthen cooperation, and jointly inject profound and lasting academic and cultural impetus into promoting the acquaintance and affinity between the Chinese and Arab people and the high-quality development of the "the Belt and Road".

At the symposium, Sun Qingwei and Hafez jointly unveiled the plaque for the newly established Arab League Research Center at our university, and witnessed the launch ceremony of the compilation of our school's "History of the Arab League". Professor Huang Minxing from the Regional National College introduced the writing plan for "The History of the Arab League". Sun Qingwei and Hafez highly affirmed the academic innovation and significance of the project, and jointly suggested that this book be listed as an important achievement of the second China Arab States Summit to be held in China next year.



During the meeting, Fan Daidi emphasized that Mr. Hafez's visit and appointment, the establishment of the Arab League Research Center, and the launch of the compilation of the "History of the Arab League" will further promote exchanges and cooperation between China and Arab countries, and contribute to the construction of a China Arab community with a shared future.
