On the morning of November 14, 2025, Professor Liang Maoxin from the Institute of American Studies at Northeast Normal University was invited to give an academic lecture titled "The Evolution of Countries, Regions, and World History from the Perspective of Immigration" at Northwestern University. This lecture is jointly organized by the Social Science Department, the School of Foreign Languages, and the Regional and National Studies College, and hosted by Professor Wang Xingang from the School of History.

Professor Liang Maoxin used the United States as a specific case study and explored the theoretical implications of immigration history research on world history narrative and regional country studies from the perspective of global immigration history. He also proposed in-depth reflections on the current status of regional country discipline construction. Professor Liang Maoxin elaborates on the special position of immigration history in the writing of American history. He analyzed the relationship between immigration activities and the beginning of world history, defined the basic concepts of "region" and "country", and emphasized the academic significance of regional and country history as important components of world history. Subsequently, we will re-examine the development of modern world history from the perspective of cross regional migration. He pointed out that understanding this historical process requires relying on four interrelated main lines, all of which are indispensable, in order to fully and profoundly reveal the complex connection between immigration and global historical evolution. Finally, Professor Liang further explored several key issues faced by China in the study of regional and national immigration history, providing valuable insights for the future development direction of this field. During the interactive session, Professor Liang Maoxin provided detailed answers to the questions raised by the teachers and students present. Professor Wang Xingang summarized the lecture.
